Coping

Storm Bluestone

Deep blue-charcoal with medium variation, Storm Bluestone coping gives a pool or seat wall a strong, dark edge line. The stone is a bluestone sandstone, and its flamed finish leaves the surface textured rather than smooth.

The piece is listed as 12x24 at 2 in thick, with a full bullnose on one 24 in side. That rounded long edge faces the water or the open side of a wall. Darker stone absorbs more sun, so it is worth thinking about exposure on very hot decks before choosing it. Pair it with Storm Bluestone pavers, which come in a wide size range in 1 in and 1-1/2 in thicknesses.

See how the coping and pavers read together before you order. Request a quote and samples, and visit our Draper or Payson showroom by appointment.

Sizes are nominal. Confirm dimensions, finish and edge profile with Stone Era before ordering.

Blue-charcoal coping looks sharp against white or light gray plaster, and it frames a lighter deck well if you want contrast. Pair it with black steel, cedar or ipe, and charcoal joints. Order enough pieces to account for corners and curves, since the bullnose runs on only one long side and returns need to be planned. Confirm corner details with your installer.

    Questions

    About Storm Bluestone

Is the coping the same color as the Storm Bluestone pavers?

They are the same named stone, but the coping is described as deep blue-charcoal while the pavers are listed as blue-gray. Natural stone varies, so look at samples of both together before you finalize the deck.

How are corners handled with a one-side bullnose?

Because the bullnose runs along one 24 in side, outside and inside corners typically need to be cut and fitted on site. Talk with your installer about how they plan to finish corners and curves before ordering quantities.

Is dark coping comfortable in St. George?

Darker stone generally absorbs more heat than lighter stone, so a blue-charcoal edge can get warm in direct desert sun. Shade or a lighter coping may be worth considering for fully exposed pools.

Does it work for mountain homes?

Blue-charcoal stone sits well with timber, steel and glass on mountain-modern homes in Park City or Heber. For freeze-thaw sites, confirm setting method, drainage and sealing with your installer before ordering.
