Natural Stone Veneer & Stacked Stone
Stone veneer gives you the colour, texture and variation of stone at a fraction of the thickness and weight of traditional full-bed masonry — which is why it has become the default on so much contemporary residential work.
Stone Era supplies stacked stone panels, natural stone veneer and manufactured stone veneer for facades, feature walls, fireplaces, kitchens, outdoor kitchens and water features on residential and commercial projects.
Stacked stone panels come as interlocking flats with matching L-corners in standard, XL and mini sizes. Natural and manufactured veneer come as random-size pieces in ledgestone, fieldstone, ashlar and squares-and-rectangles styles.
Suitability for interior, exterior and wet areas depends on the product and the wall assembly, so confirm the installation method for your project. For pool edges and caps, see caps and coping.

Choosing stone that works at full scale
A sample is not an elevation. A 12-inch sample shows colour and texture but tells you very little about what a thousand square feet will look like across a whole facade. Blends read differently at distance, and the dominant tone of a wall is often not the dominant tone of the sample.
Profile changes the character more than colour does. A rectangular ashlar reads cleaner and more architectural; an irregular ledgestone blend reads more organic and traditional. Decide that before you decide the colour.
Mortar colour is part of the selection. The joint is a real percentage of the finished wall. A dark stone with a light mortar is a different wall from the same stone with a matched joint, and it is the cheapest thing on the project to get wrong.
Judge it against everything else on the elevation. Roofing, siding, window frames, timber, metal and paving all land on the same wall. Lay the samples together, outdoors, before the order goes in.
Natural stone veneer — common questions
Does stone veneer need a footing or a ledge?
Stacked stone panels and thin veneer are adhered to a prepared wall rather than carried on a brick ledge. The substrate, lath and installation method depend on the product and whether the wall is interior or exterior, so confirm the assembly with your installer.
Can this veneer be used indoors?
Yes. Stacked stone panels, mini panels and veneer are common on interior feature walls, fireplaces and backsplashes. For exterior or wet areas, check the specific product and installation method.
What is the difference between thin veneer and full-bed stone?
Thin veneer gives the appearance and variation of real stone at reduced thickness and weight and is carried by the wall. Full-bed stone is substantially thicker and generally needs a supporting ledge or footing. The right choice depends on the architectural detail, the wall assembly and the installation method rather than on appearance alone.
Which colours are available?
Forty-three products are shown here across stacked stone panels, XL and mini panels, natural stone veneer and manufactured stone veneer, from white and cream to gold, blue-gray and black. Other colours can be sourced — ask what is currently available.
Can you match stone from an inspiration photo?
Yes. Send the photo along with your project information and we can identify products with similar colour, texture, shape and overall architectural character.
Can you estimate quantities from my elevations?
Yes. Send the elevations or a material schedule with project information and we can help identify appropriate products and estimate material requirements, including a waste allowance.
Ready to shortlist stone?
Send elevations, square footage or inspiration photos. We will narrow hundreds of possibilities to a few that suit the architecture, the application and the budget.
